A guide to every Spider-Man: Miles Morales suit, and the comic origins (2024)

After being a supporting character in 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man, the young, superpowered Miles Morales has his own game, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a launch title for the PlayStation 5. (It will also be available on the PS4.) And with a new Spider-Man game comes a ton of new, unlockable Spider-Man costumes.

Like the original game, Miles has several suits to choose from. And though his closet might not be as big as Peter Parker’s, he’s still got some solid options as he swings through Harlem. Here’s every costume in Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Sportswear Suit

First Appearance: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

If Miles’ original black-and-red costume is iconic, the variant seen during the Leap of Faith scene in Spider-Verse is Iconic. From the basketball shorts to the hoodie, everything about the look just screams “Miles” ... minus the lack of actual Jordans. It would be more surprising if it wasn’t in the game.

Great Responsibility Suit

First appearance: Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020)

Miles’ first comics appearances, he wore a knock-off Spier-Man suit that he eventually decided was in poor taste. This suit is essentially that costume Miles originally donned. Making his first appearance in the Ultimate Fallout comics miniseries and barely understanding his powers, Miles showed up in a costume similar to Pete’s to fight the Kangaroo, which clearly didn’t go well. In the game proper, Miles is given the suit by Peter shortly before he and Mary Jane leave for Symkaria.

Homemade Suit

First Appearance: Spider-Man Annual (2018)

Before he borrowed Spider-Man’s suit and before he got his own, Miles had to improvise. While out with his friends at the mall, a Skrull started trashing the place. Deciding to help but lacking any threads, Miles grabbed some goggles and a spiffy vest to save the day. It looks like a mix of Scarlet Spider and the homemade MCU suit, but it’s still Miles in its own way.

TRACK Suit

First Appearance: Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020)

Though the original Spider-Man game had plenty of costumes calling back to Peter’s comics history, a few of them were wholly original and even have their own in-universe fiction for existing. The TRACK suit is like that for Miles, an original outfit created by Marvel artist Javier Garron, who also draws the current Miles Morales comic written by Saladin Ahmed. In the game’s lore, it was designed by Miles’ best friend, Ganke Lee.

Animated Suit

First Appearance: Ultimate Spider-Man: The Spider Verse, Pt. 3 (2015)

Miles made his animated debut during Disney’s Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon. During its adaptation of the “Spider-Verse” event, this Miles was more or less the one from the comics, voiced by Donald Glover, who heavily inspired Miles’ creation. This suit also brings Miles full circle: Nadji Jeter, Miles’ voice actor in the game, got his start with the character thanks to the current Spider-Man cartoon.

Brooklyn Visions Academy Suit

First Appearance: Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020)

As the game starts, Miles and his mom Rio have moved to Harlem. Before that, they lived in Brooklyn, where Miles attended Brooklyn Visions Academy. Similar to his recent film incarnation, his school required him to wear a uniform, hence the blue suit jacket.

Crimson Cowl Suit

First Appearance: Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020)

The Crimson suit gives Miles a more athletic look. Call it a cowl, call it a red hood (not that one); either way it looks pretty cool.

STRIKE Suit

First Appearance: Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020)

Made fresh for the game, the STRIKE suit looks perfect for dealing extra damage to enemies. With the exception of the gauntlets, this suit could probably also function as casual clothing for when Miles is just out and about Harlem. Maybe a little too much red, though.

The End Suit

First Appearance: Miles Morales: The End (2020)

Billed as a series of one-shots chronicling the final days of various Marvel heroes in the far future, Miles’ issue of “The End” saw him as an old man protecting the last bastion of civilization in Brooklyn as both Spider-Man and its mayor. During a fight with an invading militia, Miles led the people of Brooklyn to victory, though he died fighting the militia leader in the process.

Miles Morales 2099 Suit

First Appearance: Miles Morales: Spider-Man #12 (2019)

Taken from yet another variant cover, this suit comes courtesy of artist Lee Garbett, and definitely draws influence from Miguel O’Hara, the Spidey of 2099. It looks very much like a cool thing to wear right now in 2020.

Into the Spider-Verse Suit

First Appearance: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

You didn’t think they wouldn’t include it, did you? Similar to Peter Parker’s cel-shaded suit in the previous game, the Spider-Verse Suit gives our hero a cartoony look, with the added bonus of making it look like the Miles from the movie got transported into this new hyper realistic world.

Classic Suit

First Appearance: Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man #5 (2012)

Miles was originally the Spider-Man of the Ultimate Marvel Universe, inheriting the title not long after the death of that universe’s Peter Parker. At first, he wore a store-bought classic Spider-Man outfit that pretty much everyone, including him, agreed was in kind of poor taste, given Peter’s recent demise. Miles received what is now his iconic black-and-red look courtesy of the Ultimate Universe’s Nick Fury (the basis for Samuel L. Jackson’s MCU version).

Outside of the comics, the costume’s origin is much different. In Into the Spider-Verse, Miles takes one of the suits actually worn by his universe’s now dead Peter Parker and spray paints it to show that he’s his own Spider-hero. And for the game version, Peter Parker of Marvel’s Spider-Man was tangled up in a 2018 crossover dubbed “Spider-Geddon” and met the 616-Miles, complimenting his costume and no doubt thinking how good it would look on his new protege.

Uptown Pride Suit

First Appearance: Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020)

It’s always nice to be recognized for your heroic deeds. After completing a variety of Harlem-based side missions, the citizens will show their love for Miles by gifting him a costume in new colors. Decked in gold, you certainly feel like a Spider-Man for the people.

Winter Suit

First Appearance: Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020)

What else needs to be said? It’s a beanie and a scarf, plus leg warmers and earmuffs. With a properly insulated suit, you can’t ask for much else while fighting bad guys on the merriest of nights.

Miles Morales 2020 Suit

First Appearance: Miles Morales: Spider-Man #13 (2019)

After the success of Spider-Verse, Marvel released a new Miles Morales book by Saladin Ahmed and Javier Garron. For the book’s 13th issue, comic artist Razzah created a variant cover showing Miles in a 2020 version of his suit. It’s the perfect outfit for a rave.

Programmable Matter Suit

First Appearance: Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020)

Yet another wholly new creation for the game. With its metallic look, the Matter suit could be comparable to Peter’s armored Mk. I outfit from the previous game. In some ways, it looks more like a Spider-Man robot than it does an actual Spider-Man.

Purple Reign Suit

First Appearance: Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020)

The Prowler is easily Miles’ most personal enemy on account of the man behind the mask being his uncle, Aaron Davis. Their relationship is complicated, but not so much that Miles won’t make a costume with the colors of his uncle’s antihero persona. Sadly, an epic guitar is not included.

Bodega Cat Suit

First Appearance: Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020)

Seen briefly in a recent post from Insomniac celebrating that Miles Morales has gone gold, you can see our teen hero wearing the Beginner suit, but with a backpack. The backpack slung around his shoulders contains a cute little cat who is also named Spider-Man and even has a mask of his own! And he’ll even join in on combat finishers!

Spider-Training Suit

First Appearance: Marvel’s Spider-Man - Silver Lining (2018)

After the main story of the first Spider-Man game, Insomniac released a trio of DLC chapters. In a post credits scene for the final chapter, “Silver Lining”, Peter finally decides to show Miles the superheroic basics, giving him just a mask to conceal his identity. And now look how far he’s come.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales was released on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on Nov. 12.
